The Malayan Pangolin (Manis javanica Desmarest) is one of the eight extant pangolin species found worldwide. As it is known as a nocturnal and secretive fauna, it is rare and hard to be studied in the wild. The Malayan Pangolin has been classified as an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) due to threats of illegal hunting and habitat loss. As such, in respect to the alarming population decline of this unique fauna, this study was conducted with the aim to garner information regarding the pangolin’s den preference based on different habitat landscapes in Peninsular Malaysia. A total of 122 Malayan Pangolins’ dens were recorded and five den forms were identified namely hollow logs, live tree hollows, boulder cavities, underground burrows and tree canopy. Almost half of dens recorded in this study were of hollow logs (48%) while only two dens comprised the tree canopy den (1.6%). This study is believed to be the very first study using 2-way Clustered Analysis and Detrended Component Analysis-DCA to understand how the Malayan Pangolin choose its den at different habitat landscapes.
