Abstract: Hemoglobin E (HbE) is an anomaly of the β-chain of human hemoglobin in position 26(Glu ->Lys). The effect of this mutation on physical performance is still not clear. Physical fitness among three genotype groups, AA, AE and EE, was compared. Otherwise healthy, untrained, non-smoker, adult male subjects (21-22yrs, BMI 18.2-23.2) of same ethnic origin were included in the study (N=22). Mean PFI of EE and AE genotype groups were found to be significantly lower (p<0.01) than that of AA genotype group. Keywords: Hemoglobin E; physical performance; Cardiovascular fitness; PFI; Hb genotype
