With the urban eco-environment worsening, a growing number of researchers have shifted their research emphasis to the utilization of new energy sources. Nowadays, nearly 30{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} of global primary energy consumption in urban areas comes from transportation facilities. Consequently, more and more attention has been devoted to the application of new energy in transportation facilities by the governments, especially in the field of new energy vehicles. However, the improvement of eco-environment will be limited if new energy vehicles still consume energy based on fossil fuel. Therefore, the energy base of new energy vehicles need to be changed exigently. This paper combined Remote Sensing (RS) and Geographical Information System (GIS), presents a novel method to assess the photovoltaic (PV) generation potential of parking area in city. Additionally, by means of a test case which is a parking system of a university campus in Tianjin, China, it is shown that the proposed PV potential assessment is fast and effective.
