In Singapore where Chinese is often taught as a second language, classical Chinese (wenyanwen 文言文) passages are among the most difficult in the Chinese curriculum. Not only do the students face difficulties in learning this unfamiliar language form, the language teachers also face many challenges in producing engaging teaching materials and methodologies. In view of this, this paper attempts to examine the introduction of information and communication technology (ICT) to support learning in Singapore Pre-university level. Through this research study, this paper aims to quantitatively and qualitatively investigate the results that can be derived from utilizing multimedia or ICT aids in teaching the classical Chinese passages in the Singapore Chinese classroom.
