Abstract:

The country was stunned in recent years by the series of disasters in buildings owing to faulty safety inspection and poor management which caused loss of many human lives and alerted the people to an urgent need for taking stringent safety inspection. This study reviewed the related laws and previous studies on the South Korea’s safety inspection and assessment, and identified the problems in the existing safety inspection practices through one-on-one interviews and on-site inspection followed by the development of the prototype safety-inspection application. This study is believed to save man-hours and time spent on implementing tasks, prevent disasters in and extend the durable life of buildings.
