Abstract:

Enzymatic surface reactions are common in several applications. Mathematical modelling of these reactions can provide useful fundamental insights, assisting in the optimization of such reactive processes. In this study, the proteolysis of rubisco protein films bound on four different surfaces having different characteristics by a protease enzyme, subtilisin A (SA), was studied. The results show that the characteristic of the surface underlying rubisco films has significant effect on the parameters of SA adsorption onto rubisco films but not on reaction (rubisco proteolysis and enzyme deactivation) parameters. The results also reveal that SA adsorption parameters play an important role in rubisco degradation and subsequent removal from the studied surfaces. This effect is likely correlated to enzyme mobility at the interface.
