Abstract: The world today is rising and expanding along with hikes in the prices of each and every commodity. People here are starving for energy, which even if made available, will not be affordable with their so called budget. Thus, the world is bringing its attention to renewable sources or the non-perishable ones. One such source being biological species, especially microorganisms. Most of them release energy in the form of heat. But, certain organisms release their energy in the form of light. It is this property of bioluminescence that can be made use to cater some of the energy needs. This work focuses on the study of bioluminescence showed by one such organism, known as African firefly (Photinus pyralis) and the enzyme responsible for it, Luciferase, coded by Luc gene.
