Abstract:
Open Building as a tool to solve mass housing design problems in the Netherlands is established by SAR from 1960s. Lots of housing experiments and projects using OB concepts have been developed worldwide, for example the Next21 by Osaka Gas, Century House Project, etc.. Capacity design methodology derived from Open Building and Thematic design method is a rigorous way to explore the variations of a type with the flexibility of infill and support. In addition, capacity design methodology could be applied to solve spatial problems in the different levels of built environment. As the pilot study toward building the method-specific CAAD (Computer-Aided Architectural Design) system in the next stage, a meta-data model embedded expert knowledge for the different environmental levels will be proposed.
