Abstract:
In inner cities large construction projects have an influence not only on neighboring buildings at the surface, but also on existing underground structures, e.g. tunnels and stations of urban metro systems. The influence on existing underground structures can be caused by the construction of new buildings or by the deconstruction of existing structures. The stability and the serviceability of the existing underground structures, especially the sealing systems and tunnel block joints, have to be considered during the planning phase, the design phase and the construction phase. The necessity to consider the occurring soil-structure interaction is shown by two complex large construction projects in the vicinity of existing underground structures in difficult soil and groundwater conditions.
