Abstract:

The present investigation screened clinical cases of canine gastroenteritis. The positive cases for canine parvovirus were confirmed by canine parvovirus test kit. The affected dogs were divided in two groups (Gr.I and Gr.II). The overall affected dogs showed haemorrhagic gastroenteritis, depression, anorexia and dehydration. In group II (n=6) ceftriaxone antibiotic was given along with antiemetic metoclopramide and antacid ranitidine, haemocoagulase, oral anti-diarrhoeal, vit B-complex, ascorbic acid and fluid therapy whereas group III (n=6) dogs were also administered treatment similar to Gr.II except ondansetron as antiemetic and pantoprazole as proton pump inhibitor along with Haemaccel as plasma volume expander. The present investigation showed that therapeutic regimen of group-III was found most effective in the treatment of canine parvo virus gastroenteritis as compared to group- II. Group I comprised of 6 healthy dogs used for comparison of parvovirus suffered dogs with healthy dogs for various haematological parameters.
