Abstract: The Children’s Media is frequently associated with the cartoons as if all cartoons are appropriate for children. Yet, the animations refer to children with fairy tales and stories which might not be that much appropriate for childhood. That’s why they might have another chance to tell the story in a different way that would mean a different adaptation, a wider audience and higher sells. Brave is a 2012 American computer-animated fantasy comedy film produced by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The film has many unique characteristics making it different from all the other Disney products. Firstly, the film provides some feministic aspects as a new approach to children and childhood as well as the females. One other factor is that Chapman became Pixar’s first female director of a feature-length film. Lastly, technically, it is the first film to use the Dolby Atmos sound format. The film “Brave” is telling us about a princess and her fantasies with the unknown worlds. Yet, the princess is highly different from other Disney princesses who were tiny little, kind girls, usually depicted as the unable, weak ones expecting a powerful prince to come and save them. However, Princess Brave is riding a horse and using the weapons of the time such as swords and arrows, swearing like (uneducated) men and spending most of her time alone in the forest. Her spirit of freedom blocks her relationship with her old fashioned mother. The queen mother who wants to prepare her beloved daughter for an upcoming wedding feels sorry for this situation but usually looked at as an old fashioned and strict mom. After many struggles, the little princess who is forcing the rules of the society for more freedom for herself fails to approve her traditional role. Unfortunately she meets a magician who is offering alternative perspectives and she accepts the offer without questioning too much. Yet, this new way creates more and even more serious problems than ever before. The contradiction between the modernity, freedom and traditions become so distinct that either way causes trouble on the side of Brave. This paper discusses the concept of traditional and modern throughout the narrative Brave, as well as the concept of faith, family and unity. The discourse analysis of integration the film handles the conflicts in the film as much as the suitability of the film for the little audience.
