Abstract:
The primary goal of this study is to improve the indoor environmental quality (IEQ) in classrooms using natural ventilation techniques, . In classrooms, interventions were made to improve the ventilation rate, decrease the indoor temperature and CO2 concentration. Since the area of this study is classified as hot arid region, this paper focuses on the cooling systems. Two primary natural ventilation techniques were used to improve the ventilation quality in a sample classroom; wind tower and solar chimney. Other combinations of natural ventilation techniques were also tested. Computer simulation was used to obtain the results of this study. The case that gave the best results was when solar chimneys assisted the wind tower (Case No.4). It reduced the indoor air temperature by ≈8 C°, and improved t
