Research on Same-floor Drainage Applied to Individual Mass Retrofitting of Toilets in Existing Multi-story Apartment Buildings in China

Abstract:

Aimed at the low housing condition, aging of plumbing pipes and disturbing from maintenance of building services system in the toilets of the existing multistory apartment buildings from 1970s to 1990s in China, the same-floor drainage system is applied to individual mass retrofitting of toilets. During the retrofitting of toilets in the faculty apartments in Tsinghua University, the research on the same-floor drainage system puts into practice through problem target in site survey, definition of retrofitting system, design for joints between existing building and new system, design development in the prototype room and finally mass implementation in individual retrofitted rooms. With the market turn from the new construction to building stock development in China, this same-floor drainage system for individual mass retrofitting will be reapplied as a mass customized product into wide range of the existing apartment buildings.
