Abstract: Ever since the early 1980s, the HIV epidemic in the United States has had a significant impact on men who have sex with men (MSM) (Millett, Flores, Peterson, & Bakeman, 2007). While this epidemic exists in the United States, the rate at which men who have sex with men remains a paramount concern in other countries as well, specifically in China and Thailand. It is crucial that clinicians and researchers understand the factors affecting HIV and STI rates among MSM in Thailand and China in order to provide culturally relevant interventions. The following paper provides a review of the literature on protective and risk factors underlying HIV and STI rates among MSM in China and Thailand. Research and clinical recommendations will be provided for those working with these populations.
