Abstract:
The study was conducted as a descriptive design to determine Nurses' Perception of Their Work Environment and Intent to Leave. The population of the study was consisted of nurses working in public, university and private hospitals which have 500 beds and over in Ankara/Turkey. The sample was consisted of 312 nurses (with 90{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} power). Data was collected by sociodemographic form and Practice EnvirWonormkeinngt enSvciraoleNnmuresintnsg havWe osrigk nifIndicanext r oles a(PESn-d NWI). Independent sample t test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Pearson correlation coefficient were used for data analysis. 89.7{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} of nurses were women, 65.5{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} of them has BSN, 64.1{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} of married and 51.9{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} less than 30 years of age. 62.2{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} of them working as nurse for 10 years or less, 61.5{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} of them working in this hospital for 5 years and less and 58.4{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} of them working in this wards at least 3 years. 92.3{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} of them work as service nurse, 64.7{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} of them cared for more than six patients per one shift. 86.6{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} of the nurses stated their salary was unsatisfactory and 59.3{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} of them thought that they should leave the job in the last one year. Nurses’ PESNWİ total score was =2.3±0.4. There was significant relation found between PES-NWİ total score and income level, intention to leave and total working years of nurses. Additionally nurses stated stress because of workload (82.7{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465}), dissatisfaction with salary (80.4{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465}) and workload (73.1{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465}) as factors for leaving the work. Nurses’ work environment perception was found neither positive nor negative. Income level, total working years and intention to leave affect the nurses’ work environment perception.
