Abstract: Complete chemical and statistical characterization of individual analyses represents a viable alternative in microprobe chemical dating of monazite, which can be achieved without a prior grouping of analyses. An age value and associated error can be obtained for individual analyses by rigorous error propagation through an explicit approximation of the age equation. Individual values are then sorted in increasing order of the age values and the age pattern can be divided in consistent domains using the age gradient normalized to the error, in connection with the chemical data and other information available. A satisfactory approximation for the deconvolution of the age spectrum is achieved by plotting the normal frequency distribution for all of the domains identified, followed by fine-tuning by slightly modifying the limits of the age domains if necessary.
