Abstract: It is essential to establish the toxicological data of accident chemicals on organisms in order to assess the damage by chemical accidents. In Korea, rice and radish are cultivated in various regions and one of the mainly consumed crops. However, the toxicological data of chemical accident for rice and radish is not enough. We assessed the toxicity of nitric acid, methanol, and methyl ethyl ketone introduced into agricultural land by leakage and spill for rice and radish. Rice seeds were germinated and grown in clean bed soil for 4 weeks, and the seedlings were transplanted accident chemical contaminated soil. After 4 weeks, we measured the endpoints (survival rate, biomass, chlorophyll content of leaves). Radish seeds were planted accident chemicals contaminated soil and grown for 4 weeks. After 4 weeks, we measured the endpoints (germination rate, biomass, elongation, chlorophyll content of leaves). Toxicity values were calculated PROBIT model (LC50) and GOMPERTZ model (EC50, NOEC, LOEC). LC50 of nitric acid for rice and radish are 6675 mg/kg and 1552 mg/kg, respectively. LC50 of methanol for rice and radish are 10173mg/kg and 18336 mg/kg, respectively. LC50 of methyl ethyl ketone for rice and radish are >20000 mg/kg and 10336 mg/kg, respectively. EC50 values of nitric acid, methanol and methyl ethyl ketone were calculated and summarized in this study. Further studies for evaluating the toxicological data of various accident chemicals for other organisms are needed in order to assess the damage of chemical accidents on ecosystem.
