Abstract: The nanocomposite coating nACRo3 was deposited on the grinded and polished specimens from W302 material treated to 46- 48 HRC by means of the technology of duplex PVD coating. The specimens were immersed in a melt of Al-Si alloy at temperature of 680±20°C with the duration of 15, 30 and 300 minutes. The effectiveness of the protection of coated steel specimens in the melt of Al-Si alloy has been proved. After the 5 hours’ exposure of the specimens in the melt of Al-SI, the nanocomposite coating nACRo3 formed a barrier on the steel surface of the specimens to prevent the direct effect of melt. The uncoated reference surface of the steel specimens was melted by Al-Si alloy and attacked to the depth of about 20-30 μm. The obtained information will be used for a qualitative partial evaluation of the coating resistance in the surface protection of the cavity inserts and mould cores during pressure casting of Al-Si alloys with the aim of increasing their technical life.
