Abstract: The aims of this study are twofold: (1) extend the knowledge about multilingual language representation and (2) verify the Modified Trilingual Lexical Memory model proposed by [4]. The model is based on priming data obtained from groups of German-English-French speakers. Here, to evaluate the strength of bidirectional lexical connections and employment of different processing paths between the three languages, a translation-recognition task was drawn upon. Furthermore, to address the speed of accessing conceptual information from each lexical store a word-picture-recognition task was employed. The translation recognition data pointed to equally strong lexical connections between German and English as well as German and French. The latter, however, are reported to be slower by approximately 100ms. A translation asymmetry was noted between English and French, with the backward translation being quicker than forward. Moreover, the conceptual information appears to be accessed quickest from L1, followed by L2, and next by L3. Overall, the findings obtained in this study substantiate and extend the trilingual framework.
