Abstract: This paper focuses on examples throughout history to reveal how translation operates at the intersection of language and power. The manner (i.e. language as a translation strategy) and the uses (i.e. power) of translations have had far-reaching consequences, shaping not only historical events but literary ones as well. Translation Studies is more than just a growing field: it sits squarely at the center of the cultural turn in the Humanities, where related issues such as ethics or postcolonialism attract attention and inform the field.
