Abstract:

The problem of power plant preventive maintenance scheduling (PMS) is approached in this paper. It is aimed at evaluating which generators must stop production to be checked periodically for safety. It is crucial because a failure in a power plant may cause a general breakdown in an electric grid. This situation might result in unsatisfying the electricity demand of customers. The objective is to perform PMS in such a manner that the reliability of the system is maximized. The model reached considers the integration of wind power plants in a global electric generation system comprising thermal, hydroelectric, and nuclear power plants. This is an optimisation problem. 0/1 mixed integer linear programming is used to solve the final model. An application example is included.
