Abstract:

The paper presents an evaluation on street sweeping by PM10 measurements from active traffic streets and find out the optimal sweeping/washing frequency during street sweeping and washing. A modified regenerative-air vacuum sweeper (RAVS) was used in this study. During the monitoring period, the PM10 concentration increased instantly by up to 40{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} after the road was swept by a street sweeper. The average emission potential increase measured on all roads is 15{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465}. Approximately 1.5 hours after the initial sweeping, the emission potential from road and returned to pre-treated levels. The results of sweeping experiment indicate that the direct of PM10 emissions are short no more 2 hours and the efficient of reduce can be kept up to 3~4 hours. We also find out that the street sweeper’s optimal operating sweeping parameters: speed limit is 5 km/hr, blower speed is 2,500 rpm and spray water volume is 0.2 L/min, brush angle is fixed at 45 degree. The street washer’s optimal operating sweeping parameters: speed limit is 10 km/hr, spray water position is right, water consumption is 650 L/min and spray water angle is 45 degree.
