Abstract:

In recent studies, urban simulation has become one of the biggest desirable tools for computer games, city planning, and architectural visualization. Urban simulation always utilizes very large number of polygons in order to produce realistic environment setting. The need to maintain real-time frame rates during running time for urban simulation is very demanding. Looking into collision detection perspective, detecting interference between objects in urban simulation is not an easy task. Any proposed techniques should be efficient and robust to handle objects interference during running time. One of the potential approaches that can be considered efficient and robust technique is bounding volume hierarchy. In this paper, we will describe number of collision detection techniques used in urban simulation. Besides that, we also explain the features of collision detection technique as required criteria to produce optimal and efficient collision detection approach. We also give some future direction about our current project that is to develop a new method of bounding volume hierarchies for detecting object interference in urban simulation.
