Abstract:

In a society where digital images, global networks and computer-mediated interactions are becoming ubiquitous, electronic games has been emerging as a fundamental part of youth culture. New game
practices, such as virtual environments, massively multiplayer online games, mobile gaming, so on so forth, have also quickly attracted the attention of new media artists because of the particular experience that gaming was providing. Digital artists have thus been creating in the last decade interactive installations and immersive environments which are rooted in game culture, either metaphorically or indeed structurally, using similar software tools. We will consider a few example of pioneering digital artworks which have been produced in the early years of the 21st century and which are rooted in game culture.
