Abstract:
This paper analytically describes the surface plasmon enhanced ultra-low threshold parametric down conversion in periodically poled whispering gallery resonator made of MgO doped periodically poled LiNbO3. Here the electric field associated with incident optical radiation of picowatt level is amplified to microwatt level through surface plasmon phenomenon at off resonance condition in Kretschmann geometry, formed by a 30 nm thin silver layer sandwiched between a BK7 prism plane and 10 nm thin ZnSe layer. This enhanced electric field then coupled to a whispering gallery resonator, which facilitates the generation of parametric down conversion for an incident laser radiation of picowatt level. In this proposed configuration with an incident optical power of 11.1 pW generated parametric down conversion through whispering gallery resonator found to be 62.2 μW.
