Abstract:

A lithium-ion battery is one of the best candidates as an energy storage system especially for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and electric vehicles (EVs). Temperature is one of the key important parameters that affects Li-ion battery performance significantly. In this contribution two different rated capacity batteries, 7 Ah and 20 Ah, have been characterized at various temperature ranges by static capacity, open circuit voltage (OCV) and hybrid pulse power characterization (HPPC) tests. Tests were performed from 40ºC to -20ºC. Capacity, hysteresis effect on open circuit voltage, direct current resistance and maximum charging and discharging power availability at 10 sec have been analyzed at these temperature ranges on an interval of 10ºC. In addition a constant direct current resistance state of charge zone has been identified at these temperature ranges.
