Abstract:

Experimental analysis of the effect of paraffin injection for prevention of liquid moisture transport in the brick masonry is done in the paper. The contribution of paraffin substance to the reduction of moisture ingress into the inner structure of ceramic brick is evaluated by measurement of matrix density, total open porosity, sorptivity, permeability, pore size distribution, sorption and desorption isotherms. The rate of paraffin infiltration into the brick samples, which is the crucial parameter for its proper function, is observed by infrared spectroscopy. The obtained data show the paraffin capability to reduce moisture ingress into the researched ceramic brick.
