Abstract:
A new application of a light concentrator, namely Winston cone (WC), is introduced for light permeability through a structural envelope, e.g. reinforced concrete panel, without loss or gain of energy. A panel coupled with a layer of WCs and a precast translucent concrete panel with embedded optical fibers have been designed and tested outdoor. These elements can be parts of a new building envelope. Results showing effectiveness and limitations of the proposed solution are discussed.
