Abstract:
An extensive survey for the occurrence of tumours in camel livers was done. About ten thousands slaughtered camels in main Cairo abattoirs through three years were examined. The hepatic lesions were subjected to morphological and histopathological examination to give an adequate overview on the possible tumours occurring in camel livers either the neoplastic or non- neoplastic one. The total numbers of tumours recorded in the livers was forty six cases. The neoplastic tumours recorded in six cases and the non neoblastic one recorded in forty cases. The most important neoplastic tumours reported were leiomyoma, cholangio-carcinoma and hepato- cellular carcinoma. Liver hydatidosis found in twenty five cases resembling the highest incidence among non-neoplastic lesions. One case of hepatic lipomatosis was detected in the hepatic fat as a large over growth on the liver. Nine cases of chronic hepatitis were diagnosed in this study including three cases showed granulomatous reaction. Characteristic lipogranloma detected in one case simulating that recorded in human liver due to hepatitis C and fatty liver disease, and in dog due to portosystemic shunt.
Conclusion: mainly hepatic tumours were diagnosed in cases of hepatic hydatidosis, which may give a clue on the effect of chronic irritation on the occurrence of neoplasms in camel.
