Abstract:

Using emergent technologies, this project encourages students to engage with the mediation of space and place through literature. Tracing a physical path around Cardiff Bay (UK), past and present literary representations of the area co-exist and are juxtaposed through the bespoke smartphone application. This technology provides a unique learning opportunity to address key literary issues of psychogeography and reader response theory in the field. In addition, the experience of the application problematises the established literary paradigm of reader response theory, and directly involves students in mediation of psychogeography.
