Abstract: In this study synthesis and characterization of two different nano drug delivery systems and their effect on reducing the side effects of chemotherapeutic drug Vinorelbine (VLB) is being investigated. These two nano drug delivery systems are consisted of polymeric (Poly--caprolactone)2-PolyEthyleneGlycole 2000 (PCL2-PEG 2000) and lipid based 1,2- distearoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphatidylethanolamine-N- [methoxy (polyethylene glycol)-2000] (DSPE-PEG2000). The morphology of both amphiphilic materials are Y shape. These materials make spherical particles consisted of hydrophobic core and hydrophilic corona micelles in aqueous media. Hydrophobic drug VLB was uploaded to the core part of micelles consisted of polymeric and lipid based drug delivery systems to enhance the efficacy and reduce the side effects. While both nano drug delivery systems show satisfying physicochemical properties with respect to size, drug delivery efficacy and Critical Micelle Concentration (CMC), DSPE-PEG 2000 shows better release and toxicity profile compared to PCL2-PEG. However, both nano drug delivery systems are able to reduce the most important side effect of this drug; phlebitis in a striking manner. The synthesized nano- VLB formulations are designed to be used as new targeted cancer therapy agents.
