Abstract:  We analyze the impact of different cooperation strategies on product innovation. Two main cooperation strategies are compared: vertical and horizontal. Analyzing 3833 firms of the French CIS 04 database, we find that cooperation with customers is the strategy that has the greatest impact on radical or incremental product innovation. Cooperation with suppliers has no effect or even a negative one for radical innovation. Coopetition strategy increases significantly radical innovation, above all when firms engage coopetition with US and European competitors. Cooperation with universities has an impact both on radical innovation and incremental.
