Abstract: This paper describes the project development and implementation processes, and presents the proposed implementation plan for workplace tuberculosis prevention and control in City S, a first-class city located in southern Luzon, Philippines. Entitled “A Comprehensive Anti-TB Program in the Workplace”, the project was developed through a consultative process involving key stakeholders from service providers, regulatory agencies, and selected private establishments and companies. The project aims to establish workplace TB prevention and control programs in at least 75{6e6090cdd558c53a8bc18225ef4499fead9160abd3419ad4f137e902b483c465} of registered private companies in City S by the end of 2016 through (i) health education/awareness-raising; (ii) case-finding, referral, recording and reporting system; (iii) formulation of a company policy on TB prevention and control; and (iv) enactment of a local ordinance institutionalizing workplace TB prevention and control. The project was piloted in two companies—one with a health team and the other without—that represents the range of available resources relevant to implementation of the project. Following a series of meetings between the project team, the local health team, and company representatives, the following activities were conducted: (i) advocacy with company management and employees on TB prevention and control; (ii) formulation and adoption of company policy on TB prevention and control; and (iii) orientation of company TB team leaders on workplace TB prevention and control using the Manual of Procedures. Policy recommendations at the national and local levels are proposed to further strengthen workplace TB prevention and control.
