Abstract: Simulation has been widely adopted by health care professionals in education and training for decades. There is plenty of evidence to suggest that this sophisticated simulated technology enhances not only psychomotor skills but also critical thinking as well as decision making training under a safe learning environment. Although it is a highly motivational teaching method, the sustainability of learning outcome has become one of the most challenging issues in simulated education. Research 1 showed that the sustainability of skill and knowledge decayed according to time, which made simulation education lose benefit over the conventional education in knowledge retention. The paper reviewed various learning strategies and proposed the augmented simulation-based learning framework be based on the theories of learning and motivation to bridge the gap of transition of knowledge and skill into a clinical practice in the long run.
