Abstract:  In economically turbulent times decisions in business create special conditions for decision makers. Strategic decisions in particular affect the long-term survival of the organization (Lombriser & Abplanalp 2010). Many decision makers are overwhelmed by this challenge (Brandstätter, 2010, p. 12). Observations show that in practice making decisions is harder for some managers than for others. Dealing with decisions and the way decisions are made is very individual and according to Musso and Francioni is mostly influenced by the decision maker’s personality (2012, p. 281). Traditionally, there has been a differentiation made between decision makers that employ a rational method of decision making and those that use intuition. Successful decision makers appear able to combine both of these decision-making methods and it is the character traits of these decision makers which will be scrutinized.
