Abstract: The present study was conducted to compare the structure of osteoarthritic articular cartilage with non-osteoarthritic ageing cartilage. Microscopic structure, expression of matrix components like osteocalcin and osteopontin and collagen composition was found to be much altered in osteoarthritis. The various differences observed in the cartilage from two groups suggest that osteoarthritic changes are much different from the ageing process.
