Abstract:
IT has an immense impact on the daily lives of the vast majority of people, from how they bank, communicate with friends, do business, shop etc. It is also the case that, for many people, their personal and business lives are becoming more closely intertwined e.g. through BYOD and the use of Social media for both business and pleasure etc. Looking to the future, we need to reflect on what the general public, office workers, board level directors, school pupils, computer science graduates, and everyone else in the world, need to learn about computer science in order to thrive in a technology dominated society. In order to do this we need to consider IT trends, skills shortages, employment, employer demands, the impact of technology on society etc. However, given the pace of technological change, it is very hard to predict what technology, its capabilities, and its impact on society, will look like in 5 years, let alone 10 or 20!
