Abstract:

This paper examines the evolution of government policies in Brazil to encourage the switch from petrol to ethanol, and the response of auto producers. It is shown that the USA and other nations are encouraging the use of ethanol as an energy source, and suggests that the
success of Brazil may be repeated in other key auto markets.
