Abstract:

This paper presents research on a group of foreign language learners who are learning Chinese as a second language (CSL) in Hong Kong and discusses the importance of cultural awareness of language learners. A survey research and semi-structured interviews are used to elicit the cultural needs of CSL learners. This paper discusses some suggestions on design of cultural immersion modules in foreign language teaching courses.
