Abstract:
Over the years mixed land use has efficiently responded to the diverse and evolving needs of Indian urbanism. We can see all our day-to-day needs are serviced within a quarter kilometer radius. Development has multiple compatible land uses like residential, commercial, health services, Institutional, etc. within a closed proximity is termed as Mixed landuse.
This paper studies the significance of understanding the notion of mixed land use to achieve social sustainability. Various social parameters like accessibility, diversity, vitality, community cohesion, natural surveillance, safety, quality of life, sense of belonging and (anti)social behavior has been studied in the context of mixed and segregated landuse areas.
