Abstract:
Building Information Modelling (BIM) technology is one of the most significant developments in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry recently. The previous researches showed that there is an intense interest among the industry practitioners and academic researchers to assess different aspects of BIM implementation in order to evaluate, measure, and enhance the benefits and business value of BIM, whereas no study has reviewed researches and associated existing publication relevant to requests for information (RFIs) metric with BIM implementation assessment. The objective of this paper aims to investigate and to report the potential value of RFIs used in BIM practices through reviewing the literature and to discuss RFIs metric through an affinity diagram. This study concludes that the RFIs metric is a useful measure in the BIM implementation. The number of RFIs has been adopted to assess different BIM aspects categorized into four different aspects: (1) design outcome issue, (2) coordination performance issue, (3) potential benefit returns, and (4) cost savings issue that are recognized as one of the most commonly derived benefits from using BIM. Hopefully, the findings provide essential information for the owner, the greatest beneficiary of BIM usage among practitioners, who wants to know whether BIM is valuable to invest in the near future
