Abstract:

In the 1965 Waclaw Zalewski (1917- 2016) designed an experimental structure consisting of compressed concrete shell hung on a hexagonal system of steel arches. Since at that time advance research tools were unavailable, the structure, considerably complicated from the static and technological point of view, had to be built in an experimental manner, based entirely on conceptual assumptions of Zalewski. Using the extensive experience in the design of advanced technology facilities, the designer has developed the foundations of the geometry of the structural system with a high degree of innovation. The solution of the merging problems was shifted to the phase of materialisation of the structure. Data originating from consultations with Zalewski and analysis of fragmentary documentation of the object's implementation were used as starting material for this paper.
