Earth as a Building Material An Objective and Subjective Analysis

Abstract:

The paper is an attempt to comprehensively cover the conventional and contemporary uses of Earth as a building material, and present an overview of it’s possibilities and constraints. An effort has been made to assess the performance of Earth across a matrix consisting of i) Properties ii) Ease of execution iii) Durability iv) Aesthetics v) Limitations. Although it is an age old material, it is being rediscovered lately as a versatile material and can effectively contribute to Mother Earth’s sustainable future.
