Abstract:

Effective bracing of timber-framed buildings is essential to resist the horizontal wind and earthquake loads over its expected life. In this research, an investigation is undertaken to determine the ultimate strength and failure characteristics of a specifically designed supplementary uplift restraint bracket for timber shear walls. Multiple tests were undertaken on the brackets under axial tensile force to examine the structural performance of the bracket components. The results obtained in these experiments are analyzed and discussed in this paper.
