Abstract:

The present study was conducted to examine the effect of construction factors on residential energy consumption in different climatic regions in Jordan. The purpose of this research paper is to examine the differences of energy demand and expenditure patterns among three climatic regions that are a result of three different altitudes in Jordan. More specifically, this study is concerned with answering the following two questions: Are there any differences in energy consumption among highland, dessert, and Jordan valley region? and what are the factors affecting the residential energy consumption in Jordan? This research is built on the assumption that different climatic zones will initially affect the used construction techniques and therefore, have influence on energy use. The results indicated that different location in reference to sea level has different building construction attributes and variation in energy expenditure patterns.
