Abstract:

This paper examines cross-disciplinary collaborative processes between architects and engineers during architectural design as they typically take place in China. As few previous studies have addressed the topic, this paper aims to chart this aspect of typical contemporary architectural design practice in China through literature review, interviews with stakeholders as well as the author’s personal observations. Based on insights gained from this data, the paper maps out characteristics, challenges and potentials for future cross-disciplinary work between architects and engineers in China.
