Abstract:

In this paper, the constitutive models and a performance model for pavement material are proposed and incorporated into the finite element program to predict the pavement distress such as rutting for the test pavement sections at the Northern Second Freeway in Taiwan. The results are compared with the measured distress. The nonlinear backcalculation program is also developed to get the materials properties of the test pavement sections. It is shown that the proposed constitutive models can predict the behavior of the pavement materials. The linear and nonlinear backcalculated properties for the same pavement section are obtained, and the prediction of pavement rutting from the nonlinear material properties under traffic loading at the test pavement section are close to the measured distress.
