Shear Capacity of Concrete Wide Beams Reinforced with Steel Plates

Abstract:

In this paper, application of steel plates with openings to wide beams was examined experimentally. Five specimens were manufactured to evaluate the shear capacity. The parameters are including transverse spacing and effective depth of wide beam. Estimation of the shear strength of the wide beam reinforced with steel plates was computed based on ACI 318-11 and compared with the test results. The result of the experiment showed that the steel plate works successfully as shear reinforcement for the wide beam.
