Abstract:

The increasing population and urbanization are always sprawling in the city. Population growth will certainly trigger a number of housings in the urban spaces. Housing near the airport is moving towards the airport and vice versa. These conditions cause the impact of environmental noise in residential spaces near the airport. Based on those facts, this experimental research was conducted to find out model correlation that could be used by the planners in creating the sustainable housing master plan in the urban residential spaces bordering the airport. The first step was a preliminary research to the case of housing in the airport area, Graha Padma Residence in Semarang. It has the closest distance to the runway, the critical point where the aircrafts take-off and landing everyday. The preliminary research found out that the orientation angle of the housing configuration towards the runway influenced significantly the sound level received by the inhabitants. This research used building models as representation of the real housings. The models could be rotated in their axes and created many angles of orientation towards the runway. Statistic Comparative Methods observed and analyzed the angle of orientations ranking in this research. Meanwhile, mathematical modelling procedures, the Origin–8 software systems, found out the correlation models between the sound levels and the orientation angles. The results proved that L (sound level) depends on level measured on the control model (L0) and the angle of orientation () was      c L  L  Asin  0. By this research, the correlation model will be useful for the science of Urban Planning and Design, particularly Housing Master Plan in the noisy estate near the airports.
