Abstract:
This paper examines Jakarta’s tall building planning strategy and governance, and its impacts to the urban condition. What has been successful/unsuccessful? This study aims to find lessons from other established tall building urbanites: London, New York and Singapore. An adapted table developed by [1] is used as a method to compare Jakarta to these three cities. As a conclusion, three learning points are drawn to help Jakarta grow into a more sustainable metropolis: shifting to poly-centric and mixed-use development, Transit Oriented Development (TOD), and integrating greeneries in tall building design.
Keywords: tall buildings, high density city, planning, governance
